What's in the PDF

One page per drill. Setup instructions, the coaching cue, what to look for, and common mistakes. Plus a 3-day practice schedule showing how to rotate the drills across the week.

1

Top Hand Three-Finger Pressure

Establishes the connection between the spinal engine and the hands/bat. Most hitters grip with the wrong part of the top hand โ€” this drill fixes it before any other work begins.

2

High Tee Drill (Barrel Path for the Rise Ball)

Fastpitch hitters face a pitch that rises through the zone. This drill trains the slightly downward barrel path required to make square contact on it โ€” done with an overload bat.

3

Overload/Underload Bat Swings

5 swings heavy, 5 swings light, 5 swings regular bat โ€” no rest between sets. Contrast training that builds both swing strength and swing speed in the same 15-swing round.

4

Two-Plate Timing Drill

Two plates spaced 3โ€“5 feet apart. Two swings at each, alternating, for a 6-swing round. Trains reaction time adjustment for different pitch speeds โ€” the skill that disappears in a game when a pitcher changes pace.

5

Ball-Flight Adjustment Drill

Uses ball flight as real-time swing feedback. Groundball = barrel too low. Fly ball = barrel too high. Hook spin = too inside. Slice spin = too outside. Straight flight = perfect contact. Making adjustments toward the middle, every rep.

Who these drills are for

Youth players (10โ€“14) Building mechanics before bad habits get locked in. Drills 1 and 5 are especially valuable for this age group.
High school hitters Improving swing speed and timing for a more competitive pitching environment. Drills 3 and 4 target exactly this.
Coaches running practice Each drill runs in 10โ€“15 minutes. Two fit in a standard hitting station. The ball-flight drill can run as a whole-team activity.
Players training solo All five drills work off a tee with no partner or pitching machine. A bucket of balls and two home plates is all the equipment needed.

What HPL coaches and players say

โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…

"The ball-flight drill completely changed how I practice. I used to just swing and hope. Now I have a feedback system every single rep."

โ€” FASTPITCH PLAYER, AGE 16

โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…

"I've been coaching 12U softball for six years. The two-plate drill is the best timing drill I've ever used with this age group. They got it immediately."

โ€” TRAVEL BALL COACH, 12U

โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…

"My daughter's bat speed went up noticeably in about 3 weeks using the overload/underload drill. She didn't believe it would work that fast."

โ€” PARENT, 14U TRAVEL TEAM

Questions

Is this actually free?

Yes. Enter your email and the PDF arrives immediately. No upsell, no trial, no credit card. You'll receive a short email sequence with coaching notes on each drill over the following two weeks โ€” that's the full offer.

What equipment do I need?

A batting tee, two home plates, a bucket of balls, and two bats of different weights for Drill 3. A pitching machine, batting cage, or partner is not required for any of the five drills.

What age group is this for?

The drills scale from youth (ages 10+) through high school and beyond. The coaching cues are written so a player can self-coach, but all five also work as coach-directed station drills in a team practice setting.

How does this connect to the Catapult Loading System book?

Drill 1 (top hand three-finger pressure) and Drill 5 (ball-flight adjustment) come directly from the CLS framework. The PDF introduces the core mechanics โ€” the CLS book covers the complete rotational model, the biomechanical research behind it, and the full teaching progression.

Can I use these drills in a team practice?

Yes. Each drill is designed to run as a self-contained hitting station. Two drills fit cleanly in a 20-minute hitting block. The two-plate timing drill and the ball-flight drill can also run as full-team activities without a cage.
